Fernhill School

Welcome

Welcome, to our Fernhill microsite and thank you for your interest in the post of Bursar at Fernhill School.

You have a unique opportunity to become a key member of the senior management team of Fernhill School, following a recent successful turnaround initiative. A new interim structure and Board of Governors are in place, and we have engaged with MTM Consulting, a specialist firm for the independent schools sector to assist in our business development plan as part of our exciting and challenging future.

Fernhill School is an Independent Catholic school in Rutherglen, Glasgow. It is renowned for academic excellence, its ethos and strong parental commitment. The School stands in 9 acres of tranquil greenbelt land, which provides an outstanding working environment and area for effective outdoor learning and play.

The Nursery School, Junior School and Senior School through to senior 6th year are all based on the same campus, which allows a seamless transition through all levels of the School. This enables the School to nurture and develop the Fernhill culture and values in a continuous and consistent manner whilst maintaining small class sizes from Nursery level through to Senior School.

The position of Bursar will embrace the role of Business Manager and will report directly to the Board of Governors and work closely with the Head Teacher to lead the following areas:

  • Business Development
  • Governance and Compliance
  • Financial Control
  • Administration
  • Facilities Management
  • External Contractors and Consultants

This is an opportunity for a dynamic, hands-on self-starter to develop the role and to contribute to effective change in the business model of the School. It will require flexibility, the ability to work as part of a team, and the interpersonal skills to engage with a range of stakeholders.

At Fernhill, we enjoy a wonderful engaging environment where warmth, sincerity and support are the core values embodied in our aim of achieving the full potential of our pupils. You will have the opportunity to be part of the ‘Fernhill family’ and play a key part in the future development of this outstanding and unique seat of learning.

Thank you and I look forward to receiving your application.
