The Role
The Merchants house of Glasgow ( ‘the House’ ) wishes to recruit a General Manager to manage, develop and promote all aspects of it business and activity.
The post holder will be a dynamic individual who will provide leadership skills to the organisation and will be accountable to the House’s Board of Directors through its Chair, the Lord Dean of Guild.
The General Manager will have a sound commercial background and experience in business development, finance, funding and staff management and, ideally, of the charitable sector.
The General Manager’s responsibilities will include:
- management, development and enhancement of the House’s relations with its members for benefit of the House and its business
- promotion of the House to the public
- recruitment, management and motivation of staff
- the day-to-day running and financial control of the organisation, the creation of budgets and the oversight of the preparation of management accounts
- promotion, marketing and operation of the Merchants Hall Suite as a commercial activity
- oversight of the management of the Merchants House Building by the House’s external property managers
- management and development of the House’s grant making and benefits processes
- supporting the work of the Board of Directors and of Board Committees
- management of the specific and designated trust funds administered by the house
