Public Health and Intelligence, NHS National Services Scotland

Welcome

Thank you for showing an interest in the position of Medical Director (Public Health Intelligence). This is a vital post in the senior team of the Public Health and Intelligence (PHI) business unit of National Services Scotland (NSS). It is also a position of national significance in shaping the health information and intelligence support to underpin delivery of NHS Scotland’s 2020 Vision.

Public Health and Intelligence was formed in mid 2013 following the NSS QuEST reorganisation; this brought together two well known NHS Scotland brands: Information Services Division (ISD) and Health Protection Scotland (HPS). Both brands still exist today, but structurally the organisations have been integrated; however there is still much to do. The clinical workforce under the leadership of the Medical Director is central to optimising the synergies of bringing them together.

Through our mission and vision we are increasingly defining ourselves as a public health intelligence organisation supporting across the three domains of public health, namely: health improvement, improving health and health protection. Under the HPS brand we lead in the later nationally, but the majority of our resource effort is in providing the data, information and intelligence across the other domains. We need a Medical Director who is comfortable in shaping and making sense of such a wide ranging and complex strategic agenda.

In summary, we need a Medical Director who is not only outstanding professionally but is a committed team player, a leader of people and strategically influential. If that is you and if making a difference to the health and well-being of the 5 million people of Scotland is the sort of thing that motivates you, then we would love to hear from you.
