Welcome from Chair

Keith Nicholson

Thank you for your interest in the post of Chief Executive of Revenue Scotland. This role offers the unique and exciting opportunity to lead Scotland’s newest public body as it administers the first distinctly Scottish taxes in more than 300 years and prepares to take on additional responsibilities resulting from the new Scotland Bill.

Revenue Scotland is currently responsible for the administration and collection of Scotland’s devolved taxes - Land and Buildings Transaction Tax (LBTT) and Scottish Landfill Tax (SLfT). These taxes came into effect on 1 April 2015, replacing their UK equivalents (Stamp Duty Land Tax and UK Landfill Tax respectively). Revenue Scotland was established as a Non-Ministerial Department on 1 January 2015 with a Board, a Chief Executive and 40 members of staff.

To date, we have collected more than £150 million in taxes, which will support vital public services across Scotland.

The work of Revenue Scotland is underpinned by the close working relationships we have developed with many stakeholders, including the Law Society of Scotland, the Chartered Institute of Taxation and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland. The new Chief Executive will be responsible for continuing and strengthening these relationships as we prepare to take on additional devolved responsibilities.

This is an unprecedented opportunity to shape and deliver Scotland’s tax vision, leading a close-knit and dedicated team of tax professionals who are committed to enhancing Revenue Scotland’s  reputation for excellence in administering devolved taxes  effectively, efficiently and securely.

If you agree, and if you believe you have the credentials and qualities we are looking for in the Chief Executive, then I would encourage you to apply so we can explore this exciting opportunity with you.
