Since 1784, The Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHASS) has been the respected standard-bearer for farming and rural industry in Scotland.  With over 16,000 members, its key remit is to promote Scotland’s land-based and allied businesses.  A registered charity, the Society plays a pivotal role in the creation of a better understanding of the management of Scotland’s land and rural resources.

RHASS is now looking to recruit a Society Secretary to manage, and advise upon, the organisation’s obligations, duties, risks and mandatory reporting requirements so as to ensure the organisation operates within its statutory and charitable frameworks. The Secretary will take a proactive and future focused view, advising the Society on the way forward in terms of governance and membership and will promote RHASS as a charitable organisation.

The successful candidate will have significant experience of working in a membership organisation or similar. He / she will be knowledgeable on reporting requirements and have experience at an executive level of analysing issues, data and evidence objectively. The Secretary will be a diplomatic and experienced communicator who ideally has knowledge of, and involvement in, the agricultural sector or wider rural areas. As a member of the Management Team, you will also be expected to contribute to long-tern strategic planning and as such you should be comfortable and capable in this area.
