Public Engagement Committee Members

SCIAF is the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund – the official aid agency of the Catholic Church in Scotland. SCIAF works with some of the poorest and most vulnerable people around the world, helping them to free themselves from poverty. Inspired by the gospel, SCIAF tackles the causes of poverty and injustice, reaching out with love to those in need, regardless of age, race or religion. SCIAF believes in supporting the whole person, including their spiritual wellbeing, political voice, cultural and community life.
We are currently looking for Public Engagement Committee Members. Although prior non-executive director experience is not essential, candidates should already have significant experience of working beyond their own organisations in professional or business networks or similar organisations and have a good understanding of the role of working in a non-executive director position. You will be able to use your relevant expertise to develop the organisation at board level, inform strategic decisions, and guide the management and direction of this national charity.
Public Engagement Committee
The purpose and responsibility of the Public Engagement Committee is set by SCIAF’s Board of Trustees, who recognise that the committee plays a key role in the oversight and monitoring of the work of the Public Engagement Department and thus strengthens its accountability.
The Committee plays a vital role by contributing technical and professional advice, expertise and constructive critique to staff in the development and approval of strategies and plans with a particular focus on income generation, as we aim to deliver an ambitious target of £50m over the strategic period 2021-2025.
Committee members are expected to attend four committee meetings throughout the year, and attend events etc. as required. A key role of the committee is to offer support and advice when requested to the Director and senior staff.
The role is open to candidates of all faiths and backgrounds, although an understanding of the Church would be hugely beneficial for this position.
