The Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA) is a membership organisation which represents Scotland’s housing associations, co-operatives and registered social landlords (RSL’s).  Housing remains a top priority for the Scottish Government with members playing a key role in providing solutions to tackling homelessness and delivering new homes. SFHA currently represents 136 member organisations across Scotland, who collectively provide over 250,000 warm, good quality, affordable and safe homes in successful communities.  SFHA works closely with the Government and other organisations to achieve desired legislation, regulation and funding which will support the success of its members and make a difference for people and places. Through comprehensive and effective communication channels and events it provides opportunities for the sector to innovate, learn, consult and engage.

SFHA is now looking for a Head of Public Affairs & Communications who will lead and effectively manage the Public Affairs and Communications Team to deliver excellent performance and contribute to the organisations strategic aims and objectives. The post holder will represent the position of SFHA and its members through innovative media and communications. Working closely with the other Heads of Service, the post holder will raise the profile of SFHA and influence key external parties in relation to the needs and interests of SFHA’s members.

The successful candidate will embrace SFHA’s core values and the vision that everyone should have a good home in a successful community. The new Head of Public Affairs & Communications will have an awareness of the housing sector and an understanding of research and the policy environment. Possessing experience in a similar public affairs role the ideal candidate will be able to effectively develop relationships with key and influential stakeholders, whilst effectively managing and developing the Public Affairs and Communications team.

Chief Executive Sally Thomas was appointed in 2017 and is focussed on driving forward improvements and the progression of the sector and the SFHA itself. This role will provide strategic support to the Chief Executive and Board; it is also expected the post holder will stand in for Sally Thomas as required at events.
