Salary: Band 8b (£61,496 – £71,111) plus a 5% Scotland location allowance (capped at £1996 per annum)
Edinburgh, with regular travel to Glasgow and occasionally beyond

Combat Stress are the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health, serving veterans across the UK. For over a century, we have helped former servicemen and women with mental health problems such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression. We provide specialist treatment and support for veterans from every service and conflict, focusing on those with complex mental health issues to help them tackle the past and take on the future. Our vision is for all veterans to live full and meaningful lives. The work we do is vital and for many who turn to us it is both life-changing and often lifesaving.

The role

We are searching for an inspirational Head of Operations for Scotland to provide the highest quality strategic and operational leadership.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic, committed, and experienced team of 200 across the UK; this includes psychological therapists and psychiatrists as well as occupational therapists, mental health nurses and peer and family support workers. Staff are based in locations across Scotland, providing a mix of in-person and online care and treatment.

The successful candidate will report to the Deputy Director of Operations and will be expected to lead the design and delivery of the services within Scotland alongside Senior Clinicians.

They will provide strategic leadership and will be accountable for the continued modernisation and improvement of our services, with an emphasis on partnership and collaboration.

The successful candidate will bring experience  in service planning and ensure that these are developed inclusively and delivered within agreed timescales. They will also have a comprehensive knowledge of budget and risk management and the provision of safe and effective services.

The candidate

This is a fantastic opportunity for a leader with a breadth of operational experience who is committed to providing the highest quality, efficient, effective, and evidence-based mental health care to Scotland’s veterans.

The successful candidate will hold a current healthcare professional registration (RMN, OT, Psychology or Social Work) and will be expected to have significant experience of the core elements of management practice including recruitment and retention, performance management, quality improvement and both the line management and supervision of staff. Significant knowledge of the Care Inspectorate and its expectations is required.

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, with an ability to foster and inclusive and respected relationship with the team.  Alongside this, they will be expected to both develop and positively manage external stakeholder relationships and continually raise the profile of Combat Stress plays to Scotland.
