Scottish Canals are fundamental in delivering inclusive growth and economic success across Scotland’s canal network. As a Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPO), they conserve canals as part of our heritage and transform them to play a vital role in Scotland today.

Scotland’s canals have a proud and rich history, having contributed to the country’s economy for over 200 years. From the industrial revolution to the present, the canals drive transformational change. Today, through investment in regeneration and tourism, they help to tackle global issues such as health inequality and climate change and we use these working heritage assets for 21st century purposes; reimagining the ways we value, protect, and enjoy our canal corridors.

Scottish Canal’s are looking to appoint a Head of Corporate Communications and Marketing. They will support the Executive Team in the delivery of the corporate objectives for the organisation, ensuring quality & engaging communications to all internal and external stakeholders. They will be responsible for communications, marketing, corporate relationship management, stakeholder engagement, community relations, and digital activity. Working strategically across the organisation, the Head of Corporate Communications & Marketing is responsible for creating a framework and strategy which sets the quality of all communications and engagement with external and internal audiences and builds positive relationships with key stakeholders.

They will have a track record of working in communications with experience in strategic planning and leading corporate communications. In addition, there will be management and leadership experience and demonstrable evidence of implementing public affairs, stakeholder engagement and marketing. Ideally, they will have a strong commercial awareness and ability to influence at a senior level. The right candidate will ideally come from a public sector background. They should be a Member Chartered Institute Marketing (CIM) or Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) to Professional Postgraduate Diploma level.

The right candidate will be expected to work from the office several days a week as well as being flexible for travel arrangements.
