The Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA) is a membership organisation which represents Scotland’s housing associations, co-operatives and registered social landlords (RSL’s). Housing remains a top priority for the Scottish Government with members playing a key role in providing solutions to tackling homelessness and delivering new homes. SFHA currently represents 132 member organisations across Scotland, who collectively provide over 247,000 warm, good quality, affordable and safe homes in successful communities. The SFHA works closely with the Government and other organisations to achieve desired legislation, regulation and funding which will support the success of its members and make a difference for people and places. Through comprehensive and effective communication channels and events it provides opportunities for the sector to innovate, learn, consult and engage.

Organisational management has never been more challenging, particularly with the benefits that the digital agenda brings, the need for increasing compliance with legislation and regulation and a rise in customer expectations. At SFHA we are excited about the opportunities this brings to impact on how we run our own business as a result of growth and expansion but also to support service members to develop and deliver the best outcomes for their organisations.

We are looking for a Head of Business Services who will provide leadership and direction in all our business areas and activities, with a particular focus on financial management, human resources, ICT and digital service development, governance, design and event management. The role will have responsibility for the continued progress and improvement of the organisation, developing frameworks to support and monitor business planning, service development and quality. Through working closely with the executive team the Head of Business Services will ensure the services and opportunities provided to its members are cost effective and remain of a high standard, whilst generating income through the growth of commercial partnerships.

The successful candidate will embrace the SFHA core values and the vision that everyone should have a good home in a successful community. The new Head of Business Services will bring strong management experience and commercial acumen to the role, whilst possessing excellent communication skills. As this post holds responsibility for a number of business areas and functions it would be beneficial to have demonstrable experience of managing a business and preferably hold a relevant management related professional qualification.

Chief Executive Sally Thomas was appointed in 2017 and is focussed on driving forward improvements and the progression of the sector and the SFHA itself. A review of the operating structure has realigned the Head of Business services post; we now seek an ambitious, socially minded, supportive leader of people to take on the role. Working with a talented and committed multi-disciplinary staff team the Head of Business Services will play a vital role in the continued success of SFHA and its members. The post will provide a platform to impact the housing sector in a significant way through the support and services provided to members.
