Historic Environment Scotland are the lead body for Scotland’s historic environment; a charity dedicated to the advancement of heritage, culture, education and environmental protection. They are at the forefront of researching and understanding the historic environment, and addressing the impact of climate change on its future. They investigate and record architectural and archaeological sites and landscapes across Scotland and care for more than 300 properties of national importance. HES’s vision is that Scotland’s historic environment is cherished, understood, shared and enjoyed with pride by everyone.

Historic Environment Scotland is about to embark on a programme of corporate projects with a significant business change impact. These projects are highly interdependent. To assure efficient management and to maximise potential benefits of this transformational change, the projects deliveries must align. To do this we are establishing a governance structure that supports cross-project direction and oversight and helps ensure the smooth delivery of the change programme.

These key projects are:

  • Headquarters transformation
  • Archives relocation
  • Corporate Management Information System (CMIS)
  • Electronic Document and Record Management System (eDRMS)
  • IT Projects (including, mobile working, Wi-Fi and cyber security)
  • Digital Strategy implementation.

We are working with HES to recruit the Corporate Projects Programme Manager, who will be directly responsible to the Head of Internal Audit and Business Improvement. You will have an extensive background in leading transformational change and project management, ideally in the key areas as stated above, coming from a corporate perspective. Leadership is a key part of the role here, working with stakeholders and leading the team. You will also be responsible for accounting for overall programme costs, time and budget.

A Bachelor’s Degree equivalent or higher is desirable in a relevant area such as Management or Business Administration, as is a professional advanced Project/Programme Management qualification e.g. Prince 2, Agile, IPMA. This role could be undertaken on a full time fully employed basis, or indeed as a contractor on a daily rate – on a part time or full time basis.
