With over 160 years experience, David MacBrayne Ltd. is one of Scotland’s longest continually running businesses and one of Scotland’s largest logistics companies. A multi-award winning ferry operator, harbour and ship management specialist, it employs around 1500 people with an annual turnover of approximately £200 million. It transports more than five million passengers annually and operates 25 ports within the UK. David MacBrayne is a publicly-owned private limited company with its sole shareholder being the Scottish Government.  
 
The CEO is accountable to the David MacBrayne Board of Directors for leading, directing and delivering all operations throughout the Group. He / she will ensure achievement of strategic objectives and financial targets as agreed with the David MacBrayne Board of Directors and Public Service Contracts. As the company’s chief strategist, you will provide strategic direction for future tenders, bid processes and commercial opportunities. Vitally, you will liaise with external stakeholders in particular Government and Communities and provide the highest level of external relationship/stakeholder management.
 
The successful candidate will be a highly visible organisational leader and change agent who provides corporate leadership, coaches the Executive Management Team and is a relentless promoter of organisational values. She/he must have Board level experience with Executive and Non-Executive Directors gained within both commercial and public sectors. The CEO will be a problem solver who provides solutions that make a difference and who is commercially astute and able to display a sound and comprehensive understanding of the complex needs of the many stakeholders in DML. Experience of working in a highly regulated and unionised environment with substantial experience of risk and safety is essential. He / she will be a confident public speaker with the ability to adapt style to reflect the needs of the situation and audience whether working with Government, Trade Unions, Staff or the communities that DML serves.
