The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) is the national qualifications, accreditation and awarding body in Scotland. We help people to realise their potential and to achieve their ambitions by providing a wide range of high quality, internationally recognised qualifications and associated services.

SQA works across the UK and internationally; supporting schools, colleges, universities and training organisations to develop and deliver our qualifications and assessments.

Following the announced retirement of the present Chief Executive, SQA now requires a dynamic individual to lead our organisation.

This is one of the most important leadership roles within Scottish education, which encompasses the responsibilities of Chief Executive Officer of the SQA and that of the Chief Examining Officer for Scotland. This post is a critical part of the Scottish education system. It also makes an important contribution to maintaining the reputation of Scottish education outside of Scotland.

As Chief Executive, you will demonstrate exceptional leadership, management and people skills; a proven track record in strategy development and delivery; strong analytical and financial ability; intellectual rigour; excellent communication skills; a commitment to partnership engagement and support – and an understanding of Scotland’s education, business and political communities.

You will be a clear strategic thinker with experience of running an organisation which operates processes to deliver outcomes to absolute deadlines. You will have a strong commitment to engagement and partnership working as well as to supporting improvement. Prior involvement in an education or learning environment is desirable but not essential.
