Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) is the Scottish Government’s economic and community development agency for a diverse and beautiful region which covers more than half of Scotland. Our vision for the Highlands and Islands is a prosperous, inclusive and sustainable region attracting more people to live, work, study, invest and visit. With more than 55 years’ experience, HIE enjoys a reputation as one of Europe’s leading development agencies – enabling strong communities, building successful businesses and creating the condition for economic growth and a green recovery.
The Highlands and Islands contributes significantly to national economic resilience and growth, with the potential to achieve even more in future.  It is a region rich in opportunities, founded on natural and created resources, the skills and talents of our people, a diverse and dynamic business base, culture and creativity, and an active sense of community spirit, particularly in rural mainland and island areas.
We are now seeking an outstanding leader to build on this success and create the next wave of initiatives that will underpin and accelerate future growth in all parts of the Highlands and Islands.
You will oversee the development of our long-term plans for regional growth and build strong relationships and networks within central and local government, universities and the public, private and third sectors in Scotland, the UK and overseas.
You have significant, relevant experience of leading an organisation, and developing influential high-level relationships and public/private partnerships. Comfortable working internationally, you are an inspirational and visionary leader with an excellent grasp of economic and community development, change management, a clear understanding of organisational strategy and an appetite to succeed. A proven track record of risk and financial management is essential, together with an understanding of alternative and collaborative funding models. Excellent people management and communication skills are vital.
