Homelessness affects everyone in Society, in particular it has significant impacts on the young: for many, it is more than rooflessness and young people need to learn social and practical skills to be active, participating members of their community and society.

The Rock Trust are a fantastic charity, committed to helping young homeless people achieve these skills and help alleviate homelessness. We are working with them to strengthen their Board of Directors with the addition of a number of Voluntary Directors.

They started 28 years ago with an aim of ensuring that young people, who were becoming homeless, had services to support them in the transition to adulthood. They have grown significantly in these years and now have a team of 40 professionals providing services for 400-800 young people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless each year.

The Rock Trust are a financially healthy organisation with an annual income of around £1.7 million, they deliver some local authority contracts and balance this with grants and fundraising from donations and sponsored events.

They continue to grow across Scotland and as they expand services in both size and geography they need to ensure strong strategic leadership and governance.

The Board currently consists of 8 Directors with a variety of skills and expertise and they are looking to add to this number, particularly with Directors who have with experience in public or third sector leadership or accounting and audit. They own a number of residential properties and thus, Directors who have a social housing background would also be very welcome.

If you are currently holding, or have held, senior roles in your sector preferably with experience of setting strategy and managing teams and have a passion to help those suffering from homeless then this could be an excellent opportunity for you. The Rock Trust have a head office in Edinburgh however they are very open to Directors who live elsewhere in Scotland as they are expanding geographically.

The role will require active participation in quarterly board meetings coupled with being on hand, where required to offer guidance and support to the executive team and other board members.

This is a wonderful opportunity to utilise your skills and experience to work with a respected and hardworking Charity.

Most recent annual accounts and previous years are available via companies house.
