The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) is the specialist provider of transfusion medicine in Scotland, supplying high quality blood, tissues, cells and services. SNBTS work with communities, hospitals and professionals to ensure that the donor's gift is used wisely and effectively for the benefit of patients. The key priority of SNBTS is to ensure that NHS Scotland has enough blood to meet the transfusion needs of patients in Scotland with the responsibility of making sure that blood, tissues and cells are available when patients need them.

Consultant Post in Transfusion Medicine x 3
(Aberdeen, Dundee & Edinburgh)

The duties of the post are to support the provision of transfusion medicine laboratory and clinical services to hospitals within the catchment area of the regional centre.  In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to national issues within SNBTS through the patient services Directorate. National roles would also be available to suitably experienced individuals including some Blood Donor sessions in support of the Donor Consultant, sessions in support of the Tissue Consultant and also a clinical advisory role in Components.

There is a required commitment to the on-call rota, which will be 1 in 4 with prospective cover including weekends. There is work on-going to move to a 1:8 commitment nationally.

This post is offered under the terms of the new consultant contract and as such the job plan is available for consideration.  The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the job planning process and will be subject to review at least annually.  The successful applicant will also be expected to participate in the consultant appraisal system

Applicants must be registered medical practitioners who are included on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council or within three months of completing CCT qualification.
