Chief Executive

The Role

FARE Scotland is seeking an inspiring and dedicated Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the organisation into the next stage of its history and continue their exceptional support for disadvantaged communities across Scotland. Reporting to the Chair of Trustees, the CEO will drive strategic planning, fundraising, and financial management, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.

Key responsibilities include developing long-term strategies, annual budgets, and business plans; creating income generation and marketing strategies; writing funding bids; and representing FARE at external events. The CEO will also build partnerships with various stakeholders, set and review operational targets, and foster an inclusive, empowering culture for staff and volunteers.  The ideal candidate will lead with authenticity, empathy, and strong social awareness.

The Person

The ideal candidate for the role of CEO at FARE Scotland will possess deep knowledge and senior-level experience in the charity sector, enabling them to navigate complex situations confidently. They will ideally have a proven track record of working with committees or boards, setting budgets, and providing financial reports to trustees, demonstrating executive-level business acumen.

Key attributes include a collaborative management style, engaging stakeholders in strategic planning, and establishing rapport with partners, funders, and other stakeholders. The successful candidate will be committed to equal opportunities and safeguarding vulnerable communities.

The candidate should be commercially astute with a passion for the charity sector, and ideally based locally, with a deep understanding of the local community and its history. They will operate with high integrity, quality, and transparency, and demonstrate authenticity, empathy, and social awareness. Proven achievements in diversity and inclusion, along with fundraising skills and commercial awareness, are desirable. The candidate should be educated to degree level or hold an equivalent professional qualification.
