Director of Assets and Communities

Barrhead Housing Association
Director of Assets and Communities
£60,319 – £63,211
Glasgow/Remote

Barrhead Housing Association is a provider of high quality, affordable, rented housing in East Renfrewshire, now with almost 1000 homes mainly situated in Barrhead, Neilston, Newton Mearns and Thornliebank. Set up as a registered social landlord in 1986, becoming a registered Scottish charity in 2004 as well, the Association’s initial aim was to improve the tenement properties in the centre of Barrhead. They soon started a programme of building new properties for rent and now the majority of their homes are newbuild. This includes 12 new affordable homes provided in partnership with Taylor Wimpey in August 2020 and 10 with Bellway in 2021.  They have plans to work in partnership to provide a further 45 properties over the next 18 months across Barrhead.

As Barrhead says goodbye to the previous post-holder as they move into a Housing CEO role with another Glasgow RSL, they are now looking to complete the Executive Team with the appointment of a new Director of Assets and Communities. The postholder will play a key role in leading the organisation and ensuring the continued success of Barrhead Housing through strong management of the asset management and community investment teams and functions. The Director of Assets and Communities will contribute to the strategy of the organisation and contribute to the planning and delivery of objectives within their functions. They will also ensure compliance with both external regulation and internal values across their teams while maintaining a supportive and healthy working environment. The post holder will take responsibility for the development and planning of new assets in addition to the management and investment in existing assets. This will include standard facets of RSL asset management such as procurement, retrofit, cyclical maintenance, and medical adaptations amongst others. They will also be tasked with the development and implementation of the Community Investment Strategy, supporting the organisation in its partnerships and outreach in the local community and maximising BHA’s impact by securing and best deploying funding.

BHA is also the parent of Levern Property Services – a subsidiary which is currently reviewing the potential to offer a more diverse range of services to create local employment opportunities and generate surpluses for reinvestment in the local community. The Director of Assets and Communities will drive business growth via the LPS subsidiary and other business partnerships to meet strategic objectives.

The post holder will be an excellent communicator at all levels of the business and be comfortable reporting and presenting on all areas of their remit. The ideal candidate must have a proven track record in property investment, contract management and asset management. Experience working within a regulatory framework is also essential, as is experience leading procurement. The candidate will be an open, positive and driven individual committed to improving the community through quality housing and community investment.

Experience of the housing sector is not essential for the role; candidates must however evidence transferability within their application.
