We have a very exciting opportunity for a Medical and Scientific Director to lead our Medical and Scientific function in the Irish Blood Transfusion Service through a journey of innovation and transformation. The successful candidate will report into the Chief Executive and be a valued member of the IBTS Executive Management Team.

The core work of the IBTS has always been centred on the most precious of commodities, blood and blood components. We collect, test, process and distribute in an end to end process we refer to as ‘vein-to-vein’. Our services also extend to other areas in blood transfusion and tissue, including the Irish Bone Marrow register, re-establishing the Irish Eye Bank and advanced laboratory services. Our published statement of strategy ‘Connections that Count’ outlines an ambitious transformational plan for our blood and tissue services over the coming years. We have published our first dedicated Research and Development Strategy which will ensure we are positioned as a research leader in blood transfusion medicine, providing insights into the factors impacting donor health, welfare and donation. We have also recently finalised ‘Developing a Centre of Excellence – A Model of Care for Transfusion Medicine and associated Consultant Resources in the Irish Blood Transfusion Service – 2023 to 2027’. The Model of Care (MOC) has been designed to enable the expansion of current transfusion medicine services, donor care, patient services, screening, research and development and facilitate the introduction of new services in component development and cellular therapies.
