Welcome

Thanks for your interest in Deaf Action.

Deaf Action is a deaf-led charity providing services across Scotland and South England. Our strengths lie in community outreach and engagement, coupled with specialist service provision. Our vital and effective services make a real difference to deaf people, their families, and industry professionals.

By improving access to services and equipment and increasing deaf awareness, we can help reduce inequalities in areas such as health, education and employment. Our work promotes greater social inclusion and reduces isolation for deaf people – an issue which is more important than ever.

We are proud of our status as a deaf-led organisation, leading by example with a deaf CEO and a Board in which two-thirds of current members are deaf or hard of hearing. At present, almost half our workforce is deaf. We believe that this allows us to honestly position ourselves as experts on deafness. Following a strategic review, we have created a refreshed strategic plan with a new vision, mission, values and aims. As part of this, we have also reviewed our Board.

Going forward, the organisation will focus on our five new social aims, and we are looking for new Trustees with the skills and experience to support and guide us through this process.

We are looking for new Board members who can help make Scotland and South England a better place for people living with hearing loss. We value people who have lived experience or a connection to deafness, however this is not essential to be considered for the role. We are looking for Trustees who share our values and are passionate about improving the quality and conditions of life for deaf people. We are interested in speaking to individuals from a range of backgrounds including, but not limited to:

We are also looking to speak to experienced Chairs who may be interested in taking up the Chair role. Throughout this site you will find detail information on the roles, and we hope you feel inspired to join us.
