Quarriers is a major, Scottish health and social care charity. Founded almost 150 years ago, we are proud of our heritage.  What sets us apart today is the way in which we go further to transform the lives of the people we support, responding innovatively to their needs.  We have much to be proud of.

We are now looking forward to the next stage of Quarriers’ journey and development. This is an exciting time to join Quarriers as we approach the final stages of developing our strategy 2020.  We are looking for a new Chief Executive Officer to lead the charity as we continue to undergo transformational change and development to ensure we have an established presence in communities across Scotland and transform the lives of the most vulnerable people in our society.

Quarriers provides support to over 3,000 people in a diversity of settings, working in partnership with circa 17 Health and Social Care Partnerships.  We provide person-centred support to children and young people, families, carers, adults with disabilities and people with addictions. In partnership with the NHS, Quarriers provides assessment and diagnosis for people with complex epilepsy through The William Quarrier Scottish Epilepsy Centre, Scotland’s only independent hospital for epilepsy.  The Epilepsy Centre achieved 5 star Recognition for Excellence at this year’s Quality Scotland Awards.

Quarriers employs circa 1800 staff.  Quarriers is an accredited Living Wage employer, has Investors in People PLATINUM accreditation, and is an SVQ accredited provider in addition to other awards and accreditations.

Following the announcement of Alice Harper’s intention to step down in March 2020, the Board is seeking to appoint a new Chief Executive Officer.  This is a unique opportunity for an exceptional individual to lead and inspire an organisation, which transforms lives.

We are looking for a Chief Executive Officer who will:

  • Be visionary, a force of energy and bring passion for the mission of the charity
  • Have the drive and ambition to deliver the charity’s strategic goals and objectives
  • Be responsible for the effective leadership and efficient management of the organisation.
  • Be an ambassador for the organisation, able to evidence an ability to develop relationships across national non-profits, government and key stakeholders, ensuring Quarriers retains its standing, influence and reputation within the communities it serves.
  • Work with the Board of Trustees to set and deliver the strategic direction and development of services in line with national and local policies and legislation, providing visible leadership throughout the organisation.

This is a demanding role, requiring excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to foster good working relationships with a range of key internal and external stakeholders. You will be an effective communicator with strong empathy for Quarriers’ vision, mission and goals and an ability to communicate the vision across different audiences.

Ideally, you will be able to demonstrate a track record of leading a similar successful large diverse organisation. You will have relevant management and leadership qualifications and significant equivalent knowledge and experience to fulfil this role.

You will have a proven track record gained from exercising a lead role at senior management, CEO or Board level along with an understanding of current practice and systems of governance. This will help you to be prepared to exercise the skills and competencies required to meet the demands of the role as it continues to evolve over time.
