About Dumfries & Galloway College

Dumfries and Galloway College is located in South West Scotland, the gateway to three countries – Scotland, England and Ireland.  Our campus sites in Dumfries and Stranraer reflect the commitment of the College in serving the needs of the whole of the Region.

We are an award winning college and have been recognised for the development and delivery of net zero skills in the region, we were recently awarded Net Zero Hero in the Dumfries Chamber of Commerce awards and in May were awarded a Herald Higher Education prize for Outstanding Business Engagement for our work with the National Health Service.

The College delivered, in academic year 2022/23 to some 1,284 full time and 3,386 part time students who study at SCQF levels 2 to 9.  Our latest student satisfaction identifies that 97% of students indicated that they were satisfied with their college experience.   All of our student performance was above the national sector average.

Our commercial unit provides a range of accredited programmes to meet the needs of business within the region and beyond.  We are currently engaged with over 200 businesses in Dumfries and Galloway.

We are the largest provider of apprenticeships within the region providing a range in areas such as care, business, engineering and customer service.  A number of apprenticeships are delivered in collaboration with our curriculum areas.

We have recently launched a retrofit academy and a Net Zero skills centre; we see these initiatives as key in developing our offer for the future and providing skills that are required in the region.

The commercial unit has over the last 3 years has exceeded its targets and brought in significant income for the College, we see the ideal candidate as critical to maintaining this.

Colleges and regional strategic bodies receive substantial public funding from the Scottish Further and Higher Education Funding Council, commonly known as ‘the Scottish Funding Council’ or ‘SFC’.  The SFC is the national, strategic body that is responsible for funding teaching and learning provision, research and other activities in Scotland’s 25 colleges and 19 universities, by distributing funding on behalf of the Scottish Government.
