About Cumbernauld and District Women’s Aid SCIO

Cumbernauld & District Women’s Aid SCIO (CADWA), previously North Lanarkshire Women’s Aid, provides a specialist support service to women, children and young people who are experiencing domestic violence in the Cumbernauld and Kilsyth area.

At present, we have 11 safe houses (refuges).  A women and her family will be given sole occupancy of the accommodation all of which are located in the northern corridor of North Lanarkshire. Cumbernauld and District Women’s Aid Support Workers are responsible for offering support to refuge residents ensuring that they are safe and secure at all times and that any maintenance is carried out promptly.

We are committed to raising awareness of domestic abuse, its causes and effects on women, children and young people.  We regularly give talks and presentations to schools as well as attending events held locally to keep domestic abuse high on social agendas.

In addition there are 8 staff, 5.5 fte, and the organisation receives funding from Scottish Government, Delivering Equally Safe fund (until March 2025); National Lottery  Community Fund (until early 2025) and the Scottish Women’s Aid 100 days fund (until March 2025) and The Robertson Trust (until June 2027).

Cumbernauld and District Women’s Aid’s office is based in Muirfield Community Centre. Newly built in 2016, this facility is located at 1a South Muirhead Road, Seafar, Cumbernauld, G67 1AX.

Muirfield Community Centre is bursting with a variety of classes for children, young people and adults on a weekly basis. Arts & You weekly classes on offer include guitar and ukulele for young people and adults, community choir, visual arts for children, and drawing and painting for adults.

The centre provides a modern community and office space, split across 3 floors. There’s also a landscaped greenspace with a play park and multi-use games area.

All areas are fully accessible for disabled users.  There is an accessible car park (with 88 parking spaces, including 6 disabled vehicle bays and 5 mini-bus bays).

The Role

After a phase of development and restructuring lead by the Board in late 2022, CADWA are looking for a new Manager to continue this forward. This individual will be tasked with advancing this initiative, offering robust guidance to a dedicated and passionate team, and ensuring exceptional service delivery. Their aim is to empower women, children, and young people to live without the burden of domestic abuse.

The postholder will have a background managing crisis services, ideally with Women’s Aid experience, and will be able to demonstrate a commitment to feminist values. She will work with the Board to develop a strategic plan, identify and secure ongoing funding, and work in partnership with local organisations to support the delivery of North Lanarkshire Council’s strategic objectives addressing gender-based violence.

You should showcase strong motivation and organisational skills, possess leadership capabilities to nurture and enhance a team, and be willing to adjust your schedule to accommodate service requirements. Additionally, you should harbour a deep passion for enhancing the well-being of families affected by abuse.

You must hold or gain within 18 months of appointment at your own expense and in your own time, the appropriate practice and management qualifications to enable registration with the SSSC as the Manager of a Housing Support Service. Additional information:

  • CADWA is funded by Scottish Government’s Equally Safe Fund – at present until March 2025, National Lottery Community Fund – until early 2025, SWA 100 Days – until March 2025, The Robertson Trust – until June 2027. The Board has recently established a Fundraising Sub Group and is developing a fundraising strategy that the new Manager will have a key role in implementing.
  • Evenings and weekends as required on a rota basis to provide on-call support to women in our refuge accommodation. An additional payment is made for this (when direct on call cover is fully provided).
  • Membership of the PVG Scheme for both Vulnerable Adults and Children is also a requirement for this post.
  • This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
