About Scottish Canals

Scottish Canals has a wide remit, across many sectors. This provides exciting opportunities to be part of a dynamic business. We work to preserve the canals while transforming them through sustainable management, investment and regeneration.

We are the guardians of: 1,500 hectares of land and water, 90 locks, 98 road bridges, 77 accommodation bridges, 50 foot bridges, 8 railway bridges and 2 towpath bridges.

Over 22 million people visit the Scottish canals each year. Scottish Canals is committed to the highest standards of corporate governance. In order to achieve this, we follow policies which guide our business and actions as a company.

We are committed to equal opportunities, treating everyone fairly and considerately. At the same time, we respect and value people’s differences, and understand that a diverse workforce can make a more effective contribution to the canals and their communities.

Scottish Canals along with partner organisations, completed construction in 2020, Europe’s first ever `smart canal’ scheme, which uses the 250-year-old Forth and Clyde Canal and 21st century technology to mitigate flood risk as well as enable massive regeneration.
