Diabetes UK leading the fight against the UK’s biggest and growing health crisis: diabetes. They work to tackle the diabetes crisis, prevent type 2 diabetes, campaign for and support everyone affected by diabetes through funding research which will one day lead to a cure. Diabetes is a serious and often hidden condition, so without access to crucial information and support people experience life-changing and potentially fatal complications. With 4.8 million people living with diabetes in the UK, Diabetes UK is helping to put diabetes at the top of the political agenda alongside research and support for those in the community.

Diabetes Scotland operates as a subsidiary under Diabetes UK which acts as an umbrella organisation. There are over 312,000 people living with diabetes in Scotland and Diabetes Scotland looks to support and research on behalf of these people. The team is growing in Scotland and looking to expand with some key appointments.

Policy and Public Affairs Manager – Scotland

The Role

The Policy and Public Affairs Manager is a key role and the only policy focused role at Diabetes Scotland. With 1 direct report, they will lead the work steam to improve outcomes for people living with and at risk of diabetes. They will develop and deliver key policy, influencing and campaigning work as well as supporting the National Director with external engagement. Research and knowledge will help to inform the policy and public affair strategy. They will develop strong working relationships with counterpart teams across the UK to collaborate and network on behalf of Diabetes Scotland.

Who you will be:

You will have experience of working in a policy and public affairs role, ideally with some managerial experience and can demonstrate strategic thinking and planning skills. You’ll be a great public speaker and can write reports to convey complex information to different audiences.
