Chief Executive

The role – Chief Executive

Edinburgh (with hybrid working options)

£85,0000-£100,000

Due to the current Chief Executive retiring after 14 years of successfully leading Changeworks, the organisation is now looking to appoint a successor.

This position presents an opportunity to have a significant impact and make a real difference in the fight against the climate emergency as Scotland moves towards its target of becoming net-zero by 2045.

Changeworks has a new ambitious strategy and needs an exceptional Chief Executive to drive the organisation forward.

Changeworks’ aim is to drive the decarbonisation of homes in Scotland, delivering improved energy efficiency and the installation of renewable and low carbon heating. One million homes need to convert to low-carbon heating systems, and energy efficiency needs to be improved in many more in order for Scotland to meet its target of an 80% reduction in emissions by 2030.

Changeworks is committed to a just transition to ensure that the solutions developed and delivered benefit all sectors of society, including those who are suffering from fuel poverty. The organisation works with a range of partners such as the Scottish Government, local authorities, housing associations, community groups and businesses.

Changeworks is seeking a dynamic, values-driven leader. The Chief Executive will support the Board in shaping the strategic direction and be responsible for directing the development of the strategy and business plan. Successful leadership of organisational growth and the transformation required to meet demanding targets will be vital. Innovation, entrepreneurialism and strategic thinking are key to achieve Changeworks’ goals.

Partnerships are core to Changeworks’ delivery and the Chief Executive will be central in expanding stakeholder relationships with the Scottish Government, local authorities, housing associations and other partners. As the public face of Changeworks, and one of the leading voices in the Scottish environmental sector, the Chief Executive will seek to influence the operating environment, increase the profile of Changeworks and support other organisations to drive action.

The successful candidate for this role will:

  • Be a dynamic, values-driven individual committed to driving action to tackle the climate emergency
  • Have a strong track record in senior management with commercial acumen and a robust approach to risk management
  • Have experience of delivering growth, organisational transformation and change
  • Display entrepreneurial flair and the ability to build strong partnerships

Changeworks recognises that successful candidates may come from a range of different backgrounds and welcomes applications from across sectors.
