Thank you for your interest in the position of Chief Executive at the Thackray Medical Museum, and a very warm welcome to this unique institution.

This is an immensely exciting time to join the Thackray. Since our launch in 1997, we have aimed to provide a fantastic experience for all our visitors, users and learners across all age ranges and as we move into our 22nd year, we are about to commence on a £4.8m redevelopment of the Museum with funding from HLF, Wellcome Trust, the Arts Council England and the Thackray Medical Research Trust amongst others entitled 'A Healthy Future', which will create innovative and engaging visitor experiences to entertain and educate people with the history of medicine and make the museum sustainable for the future. In fulfilling our role as custodians of the Museum, the whole team have built an organisation that is focused on extending the contemporary relevance of our collections and assets to more and more people, while at the same time growing our commercial income and increasing our visitor numbers locally, regionally and nationally.

The Museum Board of Directors are looking for an exceptional person capable of building on the achievements of the past twenty years and at the same time leading this next phase of our development. This will need someone who can bring entrepreneurial flair to our organisation, while at the same time offering the leadership and managerial competencies essential in a complex business with a high public profile.
