About South Ayrshire Council

South Ayrshire is located on Scotland’s south west coast. Stretching through 45 miles of rugged coastline, it encompasses the five main towns of Troon, Prestwick, Ayr, Maybole and Girvan, while it is also home to many rural communities and villages.

With a beautiful, natural environment – from rolling countryside to long, sandy beaches – South Ayrshire offers a unique blend of industry, culture and leisure, with Robert Burns, world class golf, and award-winning local food and produce just some of its attractions.

South Ayrshire is a superb place to invest, work and live. Residents experience all the benefits of a coastal and country lifestyle, while being close to Scotland’s biggest city. Connectivity to the rest of Scotland, the UK and beyond is excellent, with an extensive road and rail network, Glasgow Prestwick Airport and two sea ports at Ayr and Troon. Educational facilities include Ayrshire College, the University of the West of Scotland and Scotland’s Rural College all located in Ayr, alongside the Aeronautical Engineering Training Centre.

South Ayrshire Council, with its headquarters in Ayr town centre, aims to serve its people and places by ‘making a difference every day’. The Council Plan 2018 - 2022 sets out its framework for creating strong and thriving communities through improving local health and wellbeing, boosting the local economy, enhancing the local environment and giving people the best possible life chances.

Aligned directly with this, is South Ayrshire’s Strategic Economic Plan: Vision 2030. Created by the Economy & Regeneration service, this Plan focuses on creating Great Places, Strong Businesses and Good Growth. With over 4,500 registered businesses, South Ayrshire's key economic sectors include aerospace and space, digital economy, visitor economy, advancing manufacturing/engineering and agritech. Through the Ayrshire Growth Deal – a partnership between the Scottish and UK Governments, and East, North and South Ayrshire Councils - £300 million is being invested across Ayrshire to transform the local economy. This includes £80 million funding for Prestwick Aerospace – Scotland’s largest aerospace hub - to position Ayrshire as one of the UK’s leading centres of Aerospace and Space.

South Ayrshire Council is an ambitious, forward-looking and responsive organisation, and we consider ourselves the most improved Council in Scotland. We're looking for the right people to help us make a difference for the people of South Ayrshire.

We believe there is no better place to be than South Ayrshire, why not come and join us?
